Acupuncture for Anxiety and Panic Attacks in Peterborough

A lot of people who come to me for anxiety have already tried everything else. Therapy. Medication. Breathing techniques. They’re managing, but they’re not well.
What I find in clinic, consistently, is that anxiety is rarely just a mental problem. That might sound strange at first. But when you restore proper blood and Qi flow — when you remove the obstruction and stagnation that’s built up in the body — something shifts. The issues that felt overwhelming just don’t seem like problems worth worrying about anymore. Not because anything in your life has changed. Because your body has.
What Chinese Medicine Actually Sees
Anxiety in Chinese medicine is always a physical problem as much as a mental one. The mind and body aren’t treated as separate things.
When Qi and blood are flowing well, the Shen — the mind — is settled. When they aren’t, everything feels harder. You’re on edge. You can’t switch off. Things that shouldn’t affect you do.
Damp and phlegm are patterns I see regularly in anxious patients. They build up in the body over time and create a kind of heaviness and obstruction that affects far more than mood. Cold hands, cold feet, poor sleep, low body heat, social withdrawal — these can all be part of the same underlying picture. They don’t seem connected. But they often are.
When you clear the obstruction, the seemingly unrelated symptoms often resolve together. That’s not coincidence. That’s the body working as it should.
A Patient I Treated Recently
I ran a week-long intensive medical seminar in Germany not long ago. One of the patients was a woman in her thirties. Anxious, shy, withdrawn. She also had chronically cold hands, cold feet, and told me she hadn’t been able to sleep in summer clothes for years — her body just didn’t produce enough heat.
Within a few sessions the change was visible. She was smiling. More open. Her hands and feet had warmed. By the end of the week she was sleeping in summer clothes for the first time in years.
The damp and phlegm that had been accumulating in her system was at the root of all of it. Once that cleared, everything shifted together.
That’s what good treatment looks like. Not managing symptoms one by one — resolving the pattern that’s causing them.
What I Do in Clinic
I see anxiety presenting in different ways. Some people have background worry they can’t turn off. Some have panic attacks. Some come in for something else entirely — back pain, poor sleep, digestive issues — and the anxiety comes up in conversation. Often those patients don’t even think of themselves as anxious. They’ve just forgotten what it feels like not to be.
Treatment is always based on what I find when I assess you — your pulse, your tongue, your symptoms as a whole. Two people presenting with anxiety can have very different underlying patterns, and the treatment reflects that.
Will It Work?
I’m not going to promise a result. There are limits to what any treatment can do, and I’ll always be honest about that.
What I can say is that for most patients who come to me with anxiety, we get a positive outcome. More often than not, something shifts. And for people who’ve already tried a lot of other things without success, that matters.
Getting Started
The clinic is in Peterborough at Unit 17, Orton Enterprise Centre, PE2 6XU. I offer an initial consultation where we talk through what’s happening and I explain what I think is going on from a Chinese medicine perspective.
